Job Summary
Mechanical Journeyman (Machine Repair) on a GM shop floor focused on maintaining, dismantling, repairing, and replacing mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery, including conveyors, robotics, and automation systems. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting blueprints, setting up CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders), fabricating and installing piping and support structures, servicing gearboxes, bearings, seals, and fluid systems, and ensuring parts meet precise tolerances using calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Requires adherence to OSHA safety procedures, ability to operate mobile equipment, plan sequences of operations from blueprints, and selected maintenance and predictive technologies. Qualifications emphasize six years of mechanical-trade experience or a formal trade certificate, willingness to work flexible shifts with overtime, and eligibility to work in the U.S.; sponsorship is not provided by GM.
Required Qualifications
- Six (6) years of related experience in a Mechanical trade (millwright, pipefitter, toolmaker, machine repair) OR U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion in a Mechanical trade
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete General Motors hiring process requirements including assessments, hair drug testing, and background check
- At least 18 years of age
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Must be willing to work flexible shift hours including day, afternoon, or night shifts with overtime
