Job Summary
Mechanical Inspector role overseeing and inspecting electric rope shovel mechanical systems to improve reliability; perform mechanical inspections (transmissions, air, lubrication, hydraulic) on large mining equipment (Caterpillar 7495 electric rope shovels, Hitachi EX8000 hydraulic shovels); conduct failure analysis and oil sampling to determine root causes and implement corrective actions; develop reliability reports and preventive maintenance packages; participate in outage planning and warranty troubleshooting; collaborate with vendors and OEMs to improve equipment reliability and advise on component rebuilds; 10+ years of experience as Heavy Equipment Technician or Millwright; primarily field-based with some office analysis; shift 7x7 (12-hour days); safety-sensitive role; relocation may be available under company policy; Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years as a Heavy Equipment Technician or Millwright
- Experience with ultra-class mining shovels (Caterpillar preferred) or other large mining equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills on heavy equipment systems
- A self-driven, highly motivated individual who proactively seeks opportunities to improve shovel systems and operates effectively with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to develop well-structured, data-driven reliability reports and communicate findings effectively
- Comfortable working in a primarily field-based role (~80%) while effectively supporting office-based analysis and reporting (~20%)
