Job Summary
Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical construction projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors. Review drawings and specifications to identify project requirements, risks, and opportunities, then perform quantity take-offs and labour calculations. Solicit and evaluate subcontractor quotations, prepare RFIs, and coordinate bid submissions while participating in site visits and pre-bid meetings. Support procurement activities and assist with project turnover by converting estimates into budgets. Work closely with operations teams to support project execution, productivity tracking, and change pricing.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of estimating experience with a mechanical contractor
- Experience estimating mechanical construction projects involving municipal, or water/wastewater infrastructure
- A diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction, or related field
- Professional membership with organizations such as PEO, OACETT, or AACE
- Strong understanding of construction methods, estimating principles, and cost control
- Experience preparing quantity take-offs and developing complete bid packages
- Working knowledge of construction scheduling concepts (CPM)
- Proficiency with estimating software such as Accubid, SmartBid, or similar platforms
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- The ability to manage multiple tenders while meeting critical deadlines
