Mechanical Engineering Team Lead

Job Summary

Lead and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers, owning their performance and technical growth while directing the complete design lifecycle of self-propelled battery-electric railcars from concept through production. Oversee complex 3D CAD models, structural and thermal analyses (FEA), and champion design for manufacturing, assembly, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing best practices. Drive accountability for project milestones, resolve critical technical issues, and serve as the primary technical point of contact for mechanical engineering across software, electrical, and manufacturing leadership. Manage engineering data flow, including PLM/PDM administration, part release processes, and BOM accuracy. This full-time, 100% in-office role in St. Louis involves occasional domestic travel for testing and customer interactions.

Required Qualifications

  • At least a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
  • 8 or more years of mechanical engineering and design experience for vehicles or complex industrial equipment, including time in a technical leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of design engineers, including performance management and career development
  • Expert-level proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches
  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment as a leader
  • Fluent in both written and verbal English
  • U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided)
  • 100% in-office role based in St. Louis, MO
  • Occasional domestic travel for testing, integration, demonstrations, and customer interactions

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven track record taking complex mechanical systems from initial concept through successful production launch
  • Directly applicable industry experience, such as Rail, Electric Vehicles, Automotive, Aerospace, or Heavy Machinery
  • Deep expertise in advanced structural analysis (FEA), vehicle dynamics, and/or thermal management systems
  • Developing and managing engineering budgets and project schedules
  • Working across organizational boundaries and collaborating with other engineering disciplines at a leadership level
  • Administering a PLM/PDM system (Autodesk Vault, Windchill, Teamcenter, or similar) and owning an engineering release and change-control process
  • Agile environments for hardware development
