Job Summary
Lead and manage Enercon’s Mechanical Engineering team within the Design Engineering organization, establishing consistent engineering standards and providing technical oversight across projects. Drive design-for-manufacture practices across plastics and metals, review requirements and designs, and act as an escalation point for complex mechanical challenges. Partner with project management and other engineering managers on resource planning and tradeoffs, ensure alignment with project scope, quality, schedule, risk, and cost objectives, and promote continuous process and documentation improvements. Coach engineers to strengthen technical rigor, ownership, and cross-functional execution, and contribute to hiring strategy and capability development. Maintain and evolve CAD/PLM systems, templates, and verification workflows, and oversee supplier engagement and transfer-to-manufacturing readiness.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 10+ years of mechanical product design/development experience
- 5+ years of engineering leadership experience (functional management preferred)
- Strong people leadership and cross-functional coordination
- Hands-on mechanical engineering capabilities to review designs and provide guidance
- Experience with injection molding and sheet metal design (DFM, tolerancing, tooling)
- Experience with metal part/assembly design and fabrication (sheet metal, castings, extrusions, machined parts)
- Proficiency with 3D CAD and drawing practices (SolidWorks or equivalent)
- Experience with FEA and thermal simulation
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA expectations, IEC/UL considerations
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to drive design-for-manufacture and supplier collaboration
- Experience in design reviews, verification strategies, and transfer-to-manufacturing readiness
- Mentoring and developing engineers
- Ability to balance scope, quality, schedule, risk, and cost
