Job Summary
Lead Amca's mechanical engineering function across design, build, and test for aerospace/defense hardware. Manage and mentor a team of design, build, and test engineers; set design reviews, qualification testing, and DFM standards; drive hardware iteration from concept through production using in-house prototyping capabilities; collaborate with program management and customers to align end-use applications with robust, reliable, and cost-effective mechanical solutions. Maintain hands-on technical leadership in prototyping labs and the bench, oversee detailed design work (drawings, GD&T, FEA, specifications), and lead or support qualification campaigns per MIL-STD and aerospace standards. Partner with electrical engineering on cockpit avionics and power electronics packaging, ensure manufacturability from day one, and contribute to the mechanical product roadmap and overall company growth.
Required Qualifications
- Substantial experience in mechanical engineering for aerospace or defense hardware
- Experience leading engineering teams
- Experience with Siemens NX or equivalent CAD
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, DO-160 and other aerospace qualification frameworks
- Experience with mechanical design of avionics or power electronics hardware, including thermal management and environmental sealing
- Hands-on and lab-focused, comfortable in prototyping environments
- Strong understanding of GD&T, fluid systems (pneumatic, hydraulic), and manufacturing processes
- Ability to translate design into flight-qualified hardware and production handoff
- Ability to perform root cause investigations and implement corrective actions
- Excellent collaboration with electrical engineering on mechanical interfaces
