Mechanical Engineering - Commissioning Specialist

Job Summary

Support commissioning activities on new construction and existing building projects by assisting in the development and execution of commissioning plans and test procedures. Perform functional testing of building systems, including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and Building Automation Systems, while participating in site inspections to verify installation and system performance. Identify and document deficiencies, review drawings and sequences of operation, and coordinate with contractors and project teams. Assist in preparing commissioning reports and documentation, attend project meetings, and contribute technical input as experience develops. This role requires 2–5 years of relevant experience and a valid driver's license, with travel to project sites. Based in Edmonton, AB, the position offers career development, mentorship, and professional development fees covered.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in commissioning, controls, or building systems
  • Red Seal Journeyman Electrician with commercial BMS/controls experience
  • Red Seal Journeyman Plumber & Gasfitter with commercial BMS/controls experience
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or equivalent
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or early-career Commissioning Engineer
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical building systems
  • Working knowledge of BAS/BMS systems and building controls
  • Experience with major BMS platforms (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric)
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings and control sequences
  • Exposure to commissioning processes and/or high-performance building projects
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with willingness to learn in the field
  • Good communication and coordination skills
  • Familiarity with Canadian engineering standards and industry practices

Desired Qualifications

  • LEED accreditation (Green Associate or AP) is considered an asset
