On-site · Acton, Massachusetts, United States
Job Summary
Lead the design and development of electro-mechanical laboratory soil-testing equipment, overseeing concept generation through prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and product release. Develop detailed mechanical designs and manufacturing drawings using CAD (SolidWorks preferred); design mechanical structures, frames, enclosures, front panels, and motion systems; select and specify motors, gearboxes, actuators, sensors, and related components. Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to integrate sensors, actuators, control systems, and data acquisition hardware into mechanical designs. Conduct analyses, feasibility studies, and design reviews to ensure performance, reliability, safety, and manufacturability. Build and evaluate prototypes, identify opportunities for design optimization and continuous improvement. Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including BOMs, specifications, testing procedures, and technical reports. Manage interactions with external vendors and contract manufacturers to source components and ensure conformance to design specifications. Monitor project schedules and budgets to support timely product delivery. Support product validation, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions. Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in electro-mechanical design and automation. Preferred qualifications include experience in robotics, automated controls, and geotechnical-related disciplines.
