Mechanical Engineer - Tool Hookup
$76,000–$145,000 year
On-site · Taylor, Texas, United States
Job Summary
Mechanical Engineer – Tool Hookup executes design, integration, installation, and commissioning of mechanical utility connections to advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The role bridges facilities infrastructure and process tools, overseeing tool installation lifecycle, ensuring QA/QC, safety, and cost efficiency in a fast-paced foundry environment. Responsibilities include evaluating tool vendor hookup designs (P&IDs, 3D BIM, isometrics), verifying tool-level utility requirements against facility capacities (cooling water, high-vacuum, scrubbed exhaust), overseeing installation of ultra-clean piping, witnessing testing (pressure, leak, analytical testing for high-purity gas/chemical delivery), coordinating with FAB Engineering/Facilities Operations/EHS/Equipment Vendors, managing RFI/FCO processes, and leading tool-matrix verifications to SEMI standards before production handover. Required knowledge includes SEMI S2/S8 safety guidelines, FM and NFPA codes, orbital welding, UHP gas/chemical delivery, CAD/Revit/Navisworks, cleanroom protocols, and strong communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- Mandatory knowledge of SEMI S2/S8 safety and ergonomic guidelines; familiarity with FM and NFPA codes
- Strong technical knowledge of orbital welding, stainless steel piping, and ultra-high-purity gas/chemical delivery
- Proficiency in CAD and related software (AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, Navisworks) for spatial coordination and clash detection
- Experience with QA/QC in cleanroom construction protocols and contamination control
- Ability to manage installation, commissioning, and testing of tool hookups, including pressure and leak testing (e.g., helium leak testing)
- Experience coordinating with FAB Engineering, Facilities Operations, EHS, and Equipment Vendors
- Ability to manage RFI and FCO processes and lead tool-matrix verifications per SEMI standards
- Familiarity with project scheduling tools (Primavera P6 or MS Project) and cost-estimation workflows
