Mechanical Engineer, Thermal Hardware (Starship)

Job Summary
Develop, test, and qualify thermal protection system solutions for Starship, guiding end-to-end design from concept to flying hardware; drive thermal-structural modeling, testing, production integration, flight rationale, and post-flight data-driven optimizations for the heat shield; coordinate with production, analysis, avionics, structures, supply chain, and reliability teams; collaborate with outside vendors and testing resources to bring in new materials, capabilities, or processes; leverage hands-on experience with hardware in challenging thermal environments and strong fundamentals in aerothermal heating and TPS operation; work extended hours and weekends as needed, with domestic travel requirements; ITAR-compliant and US-citizen or eligible for required authorizations; BS in a related engineering field and 1+ years of relevant experience; opportunity to work both on the office and production floor to deliver mission-critical hardware.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in material science, mechanical engineering, materials engineering, or aerospace engineering
- 1+ years of engineering experience designing, analyzing, or building mechanical or thermal systems (internship and school projects experience qualify)
Additional Requirements
- Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
- ITAR requirements: must be a US citizen or eligible to obtain required authorizations from US Department of State
