Job Summary

Design and develop electro-mechanical components, assemblies, and integrated systems for new products while supporting existing products through troubleshooting, design improvements, and sustaining engineering activities. Conduct structural, thermal, and vibration analyses using analytical methods and finite element analysis (FEA), then lead prototype fabrication involving hands-on building, 3D printing, and coordination with fabrication resources. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into engineering specifications, create compliant drawings and documentation, and plan verification and validation testing. Identify design risks early in the product development cycle, participate in stage-gate reviews, and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Sufficient combination of education and experience in lieu of a degree may be considered
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and mechanical drafting
  • Hands-on prototyping and test experience
  • Familiarity with machine shop tools and rapid prototyping methods
  • Strong understanding of mechanics, materials, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and general engineering principles
  • Experience with design for reliability (DFR), design for manufacturability (DFM), and working knowledge of FEA tools
  • Ability to interpret and generate engineering documentation, including GD&T
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Comfort participating in technical design reviews

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in scientific instrumentation
  • Experience in sensors
  • Experience in industrial equipment
  • Experience in related complex electromechanical systems
  • Experience with product lifecycle tools (PLM systems)
  • Background in manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and/or additive manufacturing
  • Experience designing products for challenging operating environments (temperature, humidity, vibration, contamination, ruggedization)
