Job Summary
Lead Mechanical Engineer – Utility Systems Design role in Clayton, NC. Senior, hands-on engineer accountable for owning multiple utility systems (e.g., Chilled Water, Steam, Heating Hot Water, Compressed Air, Natural Gas, Plumbing) within a regulated biologics/industrial manufacturing facility. Responsibilities include leading system design through implementation, developing code-compliant drawings/specs/construction documents, equipment sizing and selection, reviewing bids and submittals, supporting FATs, field support during construction, startup, commissioning, and turnover, and acting as utility systems SME while collaborating with maintenance, operations, and project teams. Requires 8+ years of industrial mechanical engineering experience, direct ownership of system design through implementation for at least two utility systems, and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent). HVAC/tools experience (AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, PipeFlo) is a plus. The role is fully onsite in Clayton, NC.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 8+ years of industrial mechanical engineering experience
- Direct ownership of full system design through implementation for at least two of the following: Steam, Chilled Water, Heating Hot Water, Compressed Air, Natural Gas, Plumbing
- Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (biotech, biologics, pharma, chemical, or similar) strongly preferred
- Proven ability to step into existing systems and take ownership immediately
- Strong working knowledge of industrial codes and standards
- Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and operational turnover
- HVAC experience and tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, or PipeFlo are a plus, but not required
