Job Summary
Mechanical Engineer/Designer responsible for developing and executing mechanical and piping designs for large industrial facilities, including equipment layouts, piping systems, and detailed drawings. Will perform mechanical calculations (equipment sizing, stress analysis, load evaluations), review PFDs/P&IDs and vendor drawings, prepare equipment data sheets and technical specifications, coordinate with process, structural, electrical and controls teams, participate in 3D model reviews and HAZOPs, develop installation details, assist with material take-offs and cost estimates, and provide field support during construction and startup while ensuring compliance with industry codes and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree (Design diploma or Associate’s acceptable for Designer-level roles)
- 5–30+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or design for heavy industrial projects (EPC preferred)
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and design tools such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, CADWorx, SmartPlant 3D, or SolidWorks
- Experience developing equipment layouts, piping supports, and mechanical installation details
- Strong understanding of rotating and static equipment, material selection, and fabrication methods
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards (ASME Section VIII, API 610/650, ANSI, NFPA)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multi-discipline teams
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain (for Engineer-level roles)
- Willingness to travel for field work or construction support as needed
