Job Summary
Mechanical Design Engineer to develop portions of automated inspection systems and tooling. Design sub-systems involving part handling, lighting, optics, and precision mechanics; derive specifications from functional requirements; create CAD designs, drawings, and prototypes; support integration and testing. Collaborate with project managers, vendors, and customers to develop concepts, build/test prototypes, and deliver customer-ready machines. Assist sales with technical inquiries and quoting; work with machinists/assembly technicians to bring designs to life; interface with customers via phone/email and occasional site visits; coordinate with vendors to source components. Requires a background in mechanical design of automation systems, strong 3D modeling (SolidWorks), and the ability to carry projects through from concept to product realization.
Required Qualifications
- BSME or equivalent experience
- 2–6 years of experience in machine design (preferred)
- Experience with 3D solid modeling (SolidWorks preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to derive conclusions from analysis and make practical recommendations
- Machine shop experience a plus (knee mill, lathe)
- CAM experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret data, information, and documents
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills
