Job Summary
Mechanical Engineer role designing and prototyping core mechanical systems for Overlay's robotic platform. Responsibilities include developing custom mechanisms for motion, positioning, and precision actuation; collaborating with robotics, software, and product teams to ensure integration; creating assembly and fabrication-ready part drawings; rapid iteration through hands-on testing and user feedback; performing noisy data analysis/reduction; contributing to manufacturability/material choices and overall mechanical architecture; and forming defended opinions based on limited data while managing multiple projects with prioritization. The position emphasizes ownership, velocity, and craft, with in-person collaboration in the Oakland office.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in machine design, robotics, or consumer hardware
- Strong hands-on experience
- Proficiency in SolidWorks; other CAD experience is acceptable
- CFD, bonus for mixed fluid analysis
- Microfluidics
- High precision mechanism design, preferably polymer based
- Test fixture design
- Working knowledge of ASME 14.5
- Mechatronics experience
- An optimized blend of speed and quality
