Mechanical Engineer - Optomechanics (f/m/x)
On-site · Munich, Bavaria, Germany
Job Summary
Lead design and optimization of large optical mounts for high-energy, ultra-short-pulse laser systems; apply multi-degree-of-freedom kinematics to develop mounts that maintain stability under thermal loads and vibrations; select materials, threads, springs and mechanical features for high-load, fine-adjustment applications; integrate motorized or manual adjustment mechanisms, accounting for force transmission and backlash; use CAD tools to iterate designs in collaboration with physicists and systems engineers; collaborate with optical engineers to meet mechanical and optical performance targets.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience designing large, stable optical mounts or optomechanical assemblies for high-energy laser systems
- Strong understanding of mechanical kinematics including angular and spatial degrees of freedom
- Proficiency in CAD and mechanical modeling (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor) including thermal and vibrational analysis techniques
- Experience selecting and integrating adjustment mechanisms (threads, springs, flexures, motors) for alignment of optical components
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with optical engineers and physicists to meet mechanical and optical performance targets
