Job Summary
Field Application Engineer in Octopus Energy's Product Engineering team, serving as the technical interface between R&D design and field installation/operations for heat pump systems. Drive improvements from design to manufacturing, provide design guidance to field teams, support heat pump installs, monitor performance data (COP/SCOP), maintain spare parts lists, travel to customer sites and to Portadown (Belfast) for collaboration with R&D/manufacturing, train support/installation teams, own technical documentation for installers/customers/logistics, present technical solutions to the design team, analyze warranty returns, and engage with suppliers on root-cause investigations.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in mechanical engineering or a similar discipline
- 5+ years experience in design of mechanical parts of a heating or a cooling product or system
- Understanding of heat pump design and HVAC systems
- Experience in retrofit and new build heating/cooling installs
- Appreciation of smart electronic control systems relevant to heating/cooling system design
- Desirable knowledge of heat pump components (compressors, inverters, fans, evaporators, condensers), thermodynamics and refrigeration circuits, power electronics and hydraulic system design
- Understanding of standard compliance, regulations and legislations relevant to heat pump design and residential installations (MCS, F-gas, relevant EN specifications)
