Job Summary
Implement mechanical systems and equipment for internal and customer programs while supporting the design and development of dynamic tactical communications systems. Generate, review, and maintain mechanical drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions; conduct feasibility studies, testing, and trade studies for new and modified designs. Interact with vendors to quote parts, participate in engineering reviews, and support prototype and first article hardware builds. Translate customer requirements into subsystem specifications and interpret system interface documents to define interconnections. Provide on-site and distance operational support, interpreting system interface documents to ensure proper integration between hardware, software, and network systems. Conduct test planning, execution, and post-event reporting while collaborating with Electrical, Systems, and Production teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering
- 4+ years of experience
- Familiarity with Engineering Drawing Practices Y14.100 and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Y14.5
- Expert level of capability with Solidworks software including experience with eDrawings and Model Based Definition (MBD) of products and assemblies Y14.41
- Experience with fabrication methods for sheet metal and machined parts with part finishing (powder coat, anodize, Alodine, and plating)
- Understanding of additive manufacturing processes and fabrication methods for sheet metal and machined parts
- Understanding of cable routing and its application in enclosures
- Must be a nimble self-starter who is excited about technology and can think out of the box and suggest powerful new ideas
- Experience working with production personnel and creating assembly instructions
- Strong technical, interpersonal, written and verbal skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a team environment as well as independently
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability of product designs
- Ability to obtain US SECRET Clearance
- US Citizen
- Limited Travel may be required
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with commercial and military documentation
- Experience with presenting technical data to small to medium sized external customer groups (both Technical and programmatic audiences)
- Experience in design for TEMPEST, EMI MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810 (Environmental), MIL-HDBK-516 (Air Worthiness), ARINC 404, and/or ARINC 600 requirements
- Basic Electrical Engineering knowledge including manufacturing processes for Circuit Card Assemblies and grounding strategies
- Basic understanding of Configuration Management practices with experience with Solidworks PDM
- Experience with Solidworks Simulation analysis (or similar software) to include Structural Static/Fatigue, Thermal (Conduction and Convection) and Computational Flow/Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Experience in designing routing cable assemblies using software-based tools such as Solidworks Electrical 3D and Schematics
- Experience in system design, testing, and analysis
- Experience in agile, professional software development environments utilizing revision control, test driven development and continuous integration
- Active Secret Clearance
