Job Summary
Mechanical Engineer role focused on owning and leading capital improvement and reliability projects across slitting, shipping, receiving, and maintenance operations. Responsibilities include scoping and executing capital projects from concept to completion, vendor selection, installation, commissioning, and training; leading problem-solving initiatives (A3, 8D, PDCA, SMED) to reduce downtime, scrap, and inefficiencies; analyzing maintenance and production data to identify root causes and implement preventive actions; partnering with Maintenance and Production to improve equipment reliability and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE); driving Lean manufacturing initiatives to improve flow, reduce waste, and increase throughput; ensuring ISO/IATF standards, OSHA, and EH&S compliance; participating in Gemba walks, audits, and process validations. Preferred experience in steel processing, coil handling, and familiarity with SAP, CMMS, or OEE dashboards. The role is plant-based, on-site in Taylor, Michigan, reporting to the Operations Manager, with a strong emphasis on hands-on execution and cross-functional collaboration.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
- Demonstrated experience leading capital or equipment-related projects from concept through implementation
- Hands-on experience with mechanical systems (hydraulics, pneumatics, automated equipment)
