Job Summary
Design, develop, and optimize mechanical systems for UAVs/UAS including airframes, propulsion systems, control surfaces, landing gears, and payload integration. Prototyping and testing UAV prototypes through ground and flight tests; perform structural analysis (stress, strain, fatigue); design thermal management for high-performance UAVs; integrate mechanical systems with sensors, electronics, and control software; select lightweight, high-performance materials; conduct root-cause failure analysis; develop maintenance and repair procedures for UAV mechanical systems; ensure regulatory compliance with UAS standards; engage in R&D for autonomous systems, additive manufacturing, and advanced composite materials; create detailed design documentation, maintenance manuals, and testing reports. Requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent) and 3-7+ years of experience; CAD (SolidWorks), GD&T, DFMA, FEA, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and aerodynamics proficiency; strong problem-solving, mentoring, and project-management skills; familiarity with UAV manufacturing processes and aerospace certification processes (DO-160, AS9100). Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience
- 3-7+ years of engineering experience
- Proficiency in CAD and mechanical design software (e.g., SolidWorks)
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Experience with DFMA and tooling design
- Experience with FEA and simulation tools
- Knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and aerodynamics
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to mentor
- Some experience in project management
