Job Summary
Mechanical Engineer III/IV for unmanned aircraft systems responsible for the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems for UAVs and aerospace applications. Design components and systems including airframes, propulsion, control surfaces, landing gears, and payload integration; build and test prototypes; perform structural, thermal, and fatigue analyses; ensure regulatory compliance; integrate with electrical, avionics, and software teams; select materials for weight, strength, and durability; conduct failure analysis; develop maintenance procedures; engage in R&D on autonomous systems, additive manufacturing, and advanced composites; document design specifications and testing. Requires CAD proficiency (SolidWorks), GD&T, DFMA, FEA, knowledge of aerodynamics and thermodynamics, and mentoring/project-management capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience
- 3-7+ years of engineering experience
- Proficiency in CAD and mechanical design software (e.g., SolidWorks)
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and drafting
- Experience with design for manufacturability (DFMA) and tooling design
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and other simulation tools
- Knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and aerodynamics
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and ability to mentor
- Some experience in project management skills
- Familiarity with UAV-specific regulations and broader aerospace certification processes (e.g., DO-160, AS9100)
