Job Summary
Mechanical Engineer II sought to support sonobuoy production and design for Ultra Maritime. Responsible for ensuring product conformance to qualified designs and monitoring/improving product performance. Tasks include identifying appropriate materials and processes to ensure quality, performance, and manufacturability; creating, interpreting, and maintaining engineering documentation (prints, specifications); evaluating design/manufacturing processes through analysis and testing; performing root cause and corrective action analysis on returned hardware; supporting supplier quality and manufacturing with design-for-manufacture (DfM) considerations and troubleshooting; fostering technical collaboration across engineering disciplines and business functions; writing reports and presenting technical content at peer and design reviews. Requirements include a BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, 4+ years experience, proficiency with SolidWorks/Inventor/Creo, ability to obtain security clearance, and willingness to travel up to 10%. The role supports U.S. Navy/defense programs with potential security clearances and is based in Columbia City, IN, with travel as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline
- 4+ years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques including injection moulding, die casting, machining, welding
- Understanding of drafting principles and standards, including GD&T
- Experience with PFMEA and Work Instructions
- Proficiency with 3D modelling software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, etc.)
- Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance
- Willingness to travel up to 10%
