Job Summary
Review mechanical design drawings, specifications, and submittals for compliance with USACE and federal standards while providing engineering oversight during construction phases. Conduct field inspections and quality assurance surveillance for mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection, verifying corrective actions and enforcing safety precautions. Prepare daily inspection reports, technical analyses, and documentation of materials and test results using RMS. Coordinate with civil, electrical, and structural disciplines to ensure design integration and system performance. Monitor project progress, estimate work completion, and participate in commissioning and testing of mechanical and control systems. This role supports resilient infrastructure projects across federal, commercial, and industrial sectors within the Smart Infrastructure Group.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, construction, or project inspection
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, RMS, and Microsoft Office Suite
- In-depth knowledge of NEC, UFC, NFPA, and USACE engineering procedures
- Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills
- Ability to interpret construction schedules and safety plans
- Ability to travel to project sites within the USACE Caribbean District as needed
Desired Qualifications
- USACE or federal experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Prior work on USACE, NAVFAC, or other federal design/construction projects
- Experience with backup power systems, renewable energy, and energy efficiency initiatives
- Familiarity with design-build delivery and government submittal processes
- Knowledge of LEED or sustainable design standards
- Experience overseeing major civil works and vertical construction projects such as hurricane gates, Army reserve centers, schools, and housing facilities
