Job Summary
Develop engineering design data within budget while adhering to FAA, customer, and company standards. Research, prepare, and review engineering data including drawings, plans, reports, and work instructions to support design assignments. Develop and produce design data for the manufacture, assembly, and installation of aircraft assemblies and components. Perform spring, fastener selections, tolerance studies, and weight or cost assessments. Conduct preliminary engineering analysis for component design substantiation and tolerance analysis. Interface with other departments to ensure requirements are met and attend design review meetings. Provide technical support to the Operations team during manufacturing and assembly phases. Work on complex design tasks with assistance and offer suggestions for continuous improvement of department procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering or related scientific field, or equivalent combination of experience and coursework
- Training and experience utilizing Solidworks (or comparable Computer Aided Design program) with demonstrable proficiency
- knowledge of engineering principles used in stress analysis, finite element modeling (FEM), 3D-computer modeling, and other analytical substantiation techniques
- extensive knowledge of personal computer systems with Microsoft Office
- good oral and written communication skills
- good organizational skills
- ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language
- ability to work in company and supplier production facilities
- Preference is for on-site work arrangement
- Must also be able to lift and carry 15 lbs
- Must be able to sit and work effectively at a computer for extended periods of time
- Visual acuity must be a minimum of 20/40 corrected
- Position could require minimal domestic travel
Desired Qualifications
- One (1) year industry experience in an engineering field, preferably dealing in the design of passenger aircraft
- Basic knowledge of FAA regulations, certification processes and related requirements
- Basic knowledge of standard aircraft components, materials, fabrication practices, aviation hardware and proper application in design
