Job Summary
Mechanical Engineer role in a hybrid setup based in Ferndale, WA. The engineer will ensure mechanical designs meet codes and standards (ASME B31.1/B31.3, ASME BPVC Sec I/ VIII), perform code calculations, prepare equipment descriptions and data sheets, and develop piping and equipment specifications for vendor quotes and bids. Responsibilities include bid evaluations, reviewing vendor drawings, selecting welding and testing requirements, coating and insulation systems, creating construction packages, and coordinating with Client Reliability Engineers and Field Contractors during scope development and installation. The role requires 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in refinery or oil and gas, a BS (and preferably MS) in mechanical engineering, strong communication, and ability to travel to local client sites. Certifications such as EIT/PE are preferred but not required. Travel to local clients is expected; some days may be remote, with specific hybrid schedule in Ferndale office (Tue-Thu). The position emphasizes safety, customer focus, and collaboration across disciplines, with a willingness to engage in ongoing learning and training.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- Master’s in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience in refinery or oil and gas industries
- Experience with static and rotating equipment design
- Familiarity with ASME piping and pressure vessel codes and API standards
- Ability to travel to local clients (at least weekly)
- EIT/PE license preferred but not required
- Ability to obtain necessary safety training and certifications (e.g., TWIC) as required by client
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Ability to coordinate with vendors and prepare bid packages
- Prepare equipment descriptions, data sheets, and equipment sizing
- Prepare technical specifications for vendor quotes and bids
- Experience with P&IDs, isometrics, and piping layouts
- Knowledge of coatings, insulation, and NDE requirements
- Construction package preparation
