Job Summary
As a Mechanical Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll leverage a strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and materials science to design, develop, and modify mechanical engineering layouts, schematics, and specifications; oversee manufacturing and installation processes; coordinate procurement and assembly of components; lead projects as a design authority for complex mechanical, thermal, and flow-related issues (MFCs, MFVs, chemical delivery components); develop tooling, fixturing, and processes; ensure designs meet performance, safety, reliability, manufacturability, and cost objectives; apply DfX principles (DFM, DFA, DFMEA, tolerance analysis); generate engineering test reports and maintain documentation; collaborate across internal and external customers and cross-functional teams; travel ~20% and participate in a comprehensive benefits program.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- 7-10 years of relevant engineering experience
- Subject-matter expertise in Flow control systems (MFCs, MFVs, or similar precision components)
- CAD software proficiency
- Knowledge of thermodynamics, sheet metal design, material selection, manufacturing methods, GD&T
- Experience acting as design authority or lead engineer for critical components
- Understanding of supplier governance, qualification processes, and change control in regulated environments
- Travel capability (20% of the time)
- Relocation eligibility for certain roles
