Mechanical Engineer 3 (R&D)

Job Summary

Conduct systems and component conceptual design development, support design trade studies, and perform thermal mechanical design analysis for static stress, fatigue, and creep using analytical and computational methods. Manage product cost modeling and support instrumentation selection and design integration for test facilities. Report to the manager for product development within a high-impact team focused on NuScale's microreactor technology for research and commercial distributed power applications. This 40-hour/week, limited duration position (6-12 months) offers potential to transition to full-time employment.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from a four year accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience in mechanical design of systems and components
  • Expertise with structural analysis using ANSYS
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
  • Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
  • Must be available for office at least 4 days per week if residing within a 30 mile radius of Houston, TX or Corvallis, OR
  • Adheres to the Corporate Safety culture and is expected to model safe behavior and influence peers to meet high standards
  • Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1
