Job Summary
Prepare calculations, evaluations, and technical reports to support client recommendations and reviews, while conducting equipment sizing, optimization evaluation, and selection for project needs. Design, modify, and analyze power plant mechanical systems alongside project teams, including system engineering tasks. Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant sites for meetings and field verification of designs. Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics knowledge to solve engineering problems using modern tools, automation, and AI to improve workflows and deliver cost-effective designs. Work in a hybrid schedule with in-office days three times per week within the Nuclear Power Group.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a strong academic background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermal systems
- A minimum of 3 years of experience
- Knowledge of the practical application of mechanical engineering and technology including applying systems, principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to a project design
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, fabrication drawings, and models
- Excellent technical report writing skills
- Strong interest in numerical computations and problem solving
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week
- There is the potential for you to travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for meetings and field verification of designs
Desired Qualifications
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training
- Experience in writing and providing support documentation for Mechanical Engineering calculations
- Coursework in the following: Power engineering, Turbomachinery, Energy conversion
- Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation
- We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems
