Mechanical Designer (EN-MME-MD-2026-132-LD)

Mechanical Designer in CERN's EN-MME-MD group, focused on mechanical engineering and design of complex equipment and systems for high-energy physics projects, including Superconducting RF components for the FCC. Responsibilities include technical management of the design office, performing design studies of assemblies and tooling, creating detailed 3D models and drawings (including specification, detail, manufacturing, assembly, installation, as-built, and verification drawings) in coordination with manufacturing and materials experts, preparing project documentation and engineering specifications, and guiding a team of designers to ensure quality and compliance. Key skills include CAD (preferably CATIA), 3D modeling and 2D drawings, ISO GPS standards for tolerancing, design of machinery and structures, manufacturing processes (machining, forming, joining), PLM tools, and strong collaboration across CERN teams. The role demands English with a commitment to learn French, a 5-year limited-duration contract, onsite work in Geneva, and a relocation package. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering is required, along with proven design experience and experience producing technical drawings; knowledge of CRYOGENICS, ultra-high vacuum, and SRF equipment is relevant to the FCC project.
