Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary
Design sensor housings, brackets, and protective features for electromagnetic sensors exposed to environmental stress, including water, thermal expansion, vibration, and shock. Create and release 3D CAD models, assemblies, and 2D drawings compliant with OEM standards, perform tolerance stack-ups, and support tooling development and supplier discussions. Collaborate with electrical engineers to translate performance requirements into mechanical constraints while incorporating DFM/DFA and cost-optimization initiatives. Ensure components are suitable for high-volume production using injection molding, overmolding, or machining. Support design reviews, changes, and customer issue resolution within a Tier-1 automotive supplier environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience in automotive mechanical design, preferably in sensors or wheel-area components
- Proficiency in CATIA v5 or NX
- Strong understanding of packaging, tolerance analysis, and GD&T
- Experience with harsh-environment automotive components (wheel area, underbody, or powertrain)
- Experience with electromagnetic, Hall-effect, or inductive sensors
- Knowledge of sealing concepts, elastomers, and overmolding techniques
- Familiarity with APQP, DFMEA, PPAP, and OEM design standards
- Experience working in Tier-1 or Tier-2 automotive supplier organizations
- Effective cross-discipline communication (mechanical electrical production)
- Ability to balance performance, cost, and durability in high-volume programs
