Job Summary
Mechanical Design Engineer focused on hydraulic and mechanical design of complex equipment. Responsibilities include determining form, fit, and specifications for hydraulic/mechanical components, researching and developing new processes, designing fluid power circuits and layouts using SolidWorks, selecting components, performing hand calculations and FEA for safety and reliability, detailing drawings with tolerances and GD&T, assisting with quotes and procurement, and managing projects across multiple plant locations. The role requires troubleshooting of fluid power/control systems, reverse engineering failed components, assisting startup of new equipment, providing cross-location design and reliability support, and ensuring designs meet safety codes. Required skills include SolidWorks, hydraulic power units, manifolds, valving, piping, actuators, materials selection, and strong communication and organizational abilities.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- 1-3 years of specialized experience in Fluid Power Systems
- Knowledge of hydraulic design/components impact on machine control system performance
- Hands-on troubleshooting skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude and creativity
- Proficient in blueprint reading, tolerances, material selection, and manufacturing processes
- SolidWorks proficiency
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (structural linear FEA)
- Strong MS Office skills
- Excellent communication skills, organization, and attention to detail
