Job Summary
Mechanical Design Engineer to support various R&D programs in national security; responsibilities include design, analysis, fabrication, assembly, and testing of complex electromechanical systems; tasks involve 3D CAD (SolidWorks), FEA, reading/creating fabrication drawings, and prototyping; travel opportunities to test equipment in the field; mentorship by senior engineers; requires BS/MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering; knowledge of CAD and MS Office; desirable knowledge of 3D printing, microcontrollers, and programming languages (Mathcad, MATLAB, Python, Java, C#, C++, etc.).
Required Qualifications
- BS/MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related degree
- Experience with 3D CAD Software
- Fundamental knowledge of materials, strengths, and statics analysis
- Utilization of mechanical engineering principals to design mechanical elements
- Ability to perform preliminary FEA on mechanical designs
- General knowledge of mechanical hardware and common systems (gears, shafts, fasteners, etc.)
- Ability to read and create mechanical fabrication drawings
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
