Mechanical Design Engineer, Hands
On-sitePalo Alto, California, United States
Job Summary
Design and develop mechanical components for dexterous hands, owning designs from concept through production while satisfying load conditions and packaging constraints. Rapidly build, test, and break prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, and manual fabrication to validate assembly and grasp performance. Integrate tactile sensors, actuators, and wire harnesses into compact geometries, generate accurate 2D drawings with GD&T, and drive parts through supplier selection and production ramp. Develop accelerated life test plans and perform structural, thermal, and tolerance analyses to validate design decisions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to consolidate requirements and integrate the hand into the full robot system.
