Job Summary
Mechanical Design Engineer role focused on propulsion systems for a hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft. Own the mechanical design and integration of propulsion subsystems including motors, high-speed generators, inverters, engine-generator coupling, ducting, and cooling systems. Drive resolution of hardware issues discovered during prototype builds and testing—tolerance stack-ups, fitment issues, and non-conforming parts. Contribute to a new in-house motor design cycle from concept through detailed design, testing, and validation. Perform DFM trade studies and work with suppliers on manufacturing feasibility, primarily involving machining and additive processes. Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, manufacturing, test, and flight teams to package and integrate propulsion components into the aircraft. Tech stack includes NX (preferred), SolidWorks, 3D CAD, FEA, GD&T, Teamcenter (PLM). On offer: Salary- $135,000-$160,000 per annum, Equity Options, strong benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- 3-8 years of experience in mechanical design and propulsion systems (VTOL/aerospace)
- ownership of mechanical design and integration of propulsion subsystems
- ability to resolve hardware issues during prototype builds and testing (tolerance stack-ups, fitment, non-conforming parts)
- experience with DFM and supplier collaboration for machining and additive processes
- cross-functional collaboration with electrical, manufacturing, test, and flight teams
