Job Summary
Mechanical Design Engineer to deliver end-to-end mechanical design for RF/high-frequency systems, including thermal management, EMI shielding, waveguide architectures, CFD/FEA analyses, and collaboration with RF, electronics and PCB teams. Responsibilities include designing lightweight structural enclosures, heatsinks, liquid cooling and modular architectures; performing thermal and structural analysis (CFD, conjugate heat transfer, FEA); optimizing for manufacturability and assembly; generating 3D CAD models and GD&T drawings in SolidWorks; supporting prototype builds, qualification, and production readiness; ensuring compliance with RF, thermal, environmental, and EMI/EMC requirements; working in space/aerospace/defence environments and adhering to industry standards (MIL-STD, ECSS) and supplier development activities; the role requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering and the ability to obtain security clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering
- Strong 2D and 3D CAD skills, with SolidWorks preferred
- Experience designing high-precision mechanical assemblies for constrained, high-reliability environments
- Understanding of PCB integration, RF shielding and EMI/EMC considerations
- Materials and manufacturing processes knowledge including CNC machining of aluminium alloys and lightweight structures
- GD&T and engineering drawing standards
- Experience developing drawings for machined, cast, moulded, punched or sheet metal parts
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams
- Experience with PDM/PLM systems and engineering change processes
- Must meet UK Government Security Clearance vetting criteria
