Job Summary
Mechanical Controls Engineer for Data Centers with lead responsibilities in the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of BAS/controls for HVAC and critical cooling in data-center environments. Lead automation design teams, mentor engineers, design front-end platforms for HVAC controls, and develop/standardize configuration, programming, networking, and diagnostic practices. Collaborate with Electrical and Mechanical teams on sequences, powering of equipment, and IT/OT interface needs. Perform startup, commissioning, and validation of control systems, review shop drawings/submittals and participate in design reviews. Experience with BACnet/IP, BACnet/MSTP, Modbus RTU/TCP; familiarity with PLC/ALC programming; experience with major BAS vendors (Johnson Controls, Siemens, Automated Logic, Honeywell, GE, Schneider Electric). Travel 5-10% depending on jobsite proximity. Proactive in client communications and project reporting; proficient with MS Office; able to read one-lines/blueprints/CAD and produce technical documentation.
Required Qualifications
- BA / BS in Engineering or relevant degree
- Licensed PE / EIT / Certifications a Plus
- 5-10+ years with BMS / BCM / BAS Systems
- Experience integrating PLC / ALC with complex data center / mission critical facilities
- Experience with BAS protocols BACnet IP, BACnet MSTP, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP
- PLC / ALC Programming Experience
- Experience with Controls systems design as it relates to Critical HVAC equipment (Chillers, Air Handlers, CRAH/CRAC, Boilers)
- Client facing experience and primary point of contact on projects
- Travel: 5-10% if located near jobsite
- MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Ability to read and audit one-lines / blueprints / CAD drawings and controls diagrams
- Knowledge of IT / OT interface requirements including routers, switches and network addressing
- Design of centralized chilled water plants and related systems
- Design, configuration, programming, and diagnostics / troubleshooting of BAS networks
- Experience with Johnson Controls / JCI; Siemens; Automated Logic; Honeywell; GE Control Systems; Schneider Electric
- Lead design and continuous improvement of configuration, programming, networking, and diagnostic standards
- Demonstrated leadership in automation design teams
- Mentoring mechanical engineers in controls design and development
- Develop process documentation and training materials
- Strong communication skills (oral and written)
- Self-starter with ability to work independently
- Ability to review submittals and shop drawings
- Experience with front-end platforms for HVAC controls
- Startup, commissioning, and validation procedures
