Job Summary
Oversee and perform advanced mechanical repairs and maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including diagnosing complex issues, removing and replacing engines, and repairing transmissions, brakes, axles, and truck frames. Conduct phase or monthly inspections, perform scheduled maintenance, and troubleshoot according to manufacturer specifications while utilizing diagnostic tools and acetylene welding techniques. Collaborate with Dispatchers to coordinate projects and daily work assignments, review and approve external vendor repair orders, and provide guidance to junior mechanics. Maintain a clean, safe work environment, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and report asset misuse or abuse. Requires a valid Class A or B CDL, DOT medical card, and five years of professional automotive experience.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or General Education Development certificate (GED)
- Five years of experience in professional automotive maintenance and repair, with at least three years
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret detailed documents such as operating and maintenance instructions or procedural manuals
- Proficiency in executing routine tasks based on verbal and written mechanical guidelines
- Experience using automotive diagnostic equipment
- Experience in acetylene welding
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations concerning commercial vehicle and equipment maintenance and safety compliance
- Possession of DOT medical card and airbrake certification
- Valid Class A or B commercial driver's license (CDL)
- Must obtain a DOT Medical Card to operate company vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,000 lbs. or more
- Duties involve frequent lifting up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting between 50 and 100 pounds
