Job Summary
Mechanic’s Assistant supports maintenance staff in wastewater facilities, performing maintenance and renewal of systems such as pumps, blowers, valves, and associated equipment. Responsibilities include assisting in evaluation of equipment performance, routine maintenance and repair, rough carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. Uses CMMS (Maximo) to coordinate service requests, collaborates with Mechanics and Plant Operators to ensure asset efficiency, and notifies appropriate personnel of needed repairs. The role involves working in a wastewater treatment environment with physically demanding tasks, possible irregular hours, and a strong emphasis on safety, integrity, trust, respect, unity, safety, and teamwork. Requires driving a district vehicle and maintaining a valid driver’s license; may involve exposure to hazardous materials and outdoor conditions. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- An associate degree or trade certification is preferred
- Must possess basic mechanical, electrical, technology, and operations aptitude
- Experience in wastewater operations or maintenance strongly preferred
- Preference is to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewater or Water Treatment or Distribution System Operator's License
- Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License
