Job Summary
Inspect, service, and road test all school department vehicles referred to the shop by drivers while checking safety items and reporting unreparable defects to the supervisor. Maintain and store all tools and equipment, keep the work area clean, and follow safety procedures. Drive school buses to transport students when assigned, including servicing disabled buses in adverse conditions. Report salvageable material to the Head Mechanic and make recommendations for the preventive maintenance program. Requires a Maine Commercial Driver's License with P and S endorsements and state certification to inspect Class A, B, and D vehicles.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of vehicle repair and maintenance
- Maine Commercial Driver's License with P and S endorsements
- State of Maine certification to inspect Class A, B, and D vehicles
- CHRC - must have a Criminal History Record Check
- Must be knowledgeable and familiar with the contents of the Minimum Standards for Pupil Transportation in Maine manual and the statutes related to student transportation and school buses
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma/equivalent preferred; experience as a mechanic
