Job Summary
Performs skilled mechanical repairs on school buses and a variety of automotive, construction, and specialized equipment. Diagnoses highly complex mechanical problems; participates with and assists other mechanics in repair and replacement; tests and inspects completed work to ensure safety and quality standards. Conducts maintenance, testing of electrical systems, diesel engines, and hydraulic systems; performs school bus body repair/replacement, preparation, and painting. Leads as a lead worker, providing guidance to lower-level equipment mechanics, and maintains maintenance records. Requires operation of test equipment and hand tools; involves exposure to hazards and working in varied environments. Work is performed under supervision and evaluated by the quality and quantity of work performed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of diesel and/or automotive mechanics preferred
- Course work in mechanical trade skills
- Considerable related experience in repairing commercial vehicles, automobiles, construction, and specialized equipment
- Possession of a valid North Carolina commercial driver's license, Class A with P/S/N Endorsements
- Possession of a valid North Carolina safety and OBD II Inspection license
- Must obtain -30 day inspection certification program
- -120 day probation period
- Must be 21 years of age
- CDL endorsements required — P, S, N
- Must obtain CDL license within 30 days
