Job Summary
Diagnose, remove, repair, replace, or rebuild clutches, water pumps, tires, tractor suspension, body repairs, rear differentials, drive lines, transmissions, wheel seals, brake systems, and diesel engine components. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on trailer refrigeration, including front and axle alignments, cooling system troubleshooting, and diagnostic tests. Cut or weld using torches and welding machines, read service bulletins, maintain shop tools, complete paperwork, and comply with safety rules. Operate required equipment and make road calls using a company vehicle. Work shifts from 7:30 pm to 6:00 am Thursday through Sunday on an on-call rotation.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Trade school graduate in heavy duty diesel repairs, and/or refrigeration classes
- Possess or acquire within 1 year from date of hire a current ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck Preventative Maintenance Inspection (PMI) (Test T8)
- Class A license
- Ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely
- Must be able to perform the following repairs without supervision: Diagnose, remove, repair, replace or rebuild: clutches, water pumps, tires, tractor suspension, body repairs, rear differentials, drive lines, transmissions, wheel seals, brake systems
- Diagnose and tune up or make repairs on diesel engines
- Perform front wheel alignments
- Perform axle alignments on trailers
- Troubleshoot cooling systems
- Conduct diagnostic tests
- Cut or weld using cutting torch and welding machine
- Read, understand and use service bulletins and technical manuals
- Maintain shop tools
- Complete all paperwork and computer input
- Comply effectively with company work and safety rules and attendance policy
- Be trained and certified to operate any required equipment within 30 days after hire
- Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the changing needs of the job
- Must be available for shop on-call rotation
- Must be available for road calls using a company vehicle
- Must be able to perform all required shop job duties and routine preventative maintenance functions
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on trailer refrigeration
- Perform simple and complex mechanical and electrical repairs
- Candidates may be subject to a background check and drug screen
Desired Qualifications
- Beginning level
- Certification with International Maxx Force 13 Engines
- Certification in Transportation Refrigeration
- Brake Systems and components
- Tractor A/C Refrigeration and Freon Recovery (609 license)
- Trailer Refrigeration 608 license
- Heavy Duty electrical diagnostics and repairs
- ASE Certification in heavy duty mechanics
- Cummins or Detroit certification
