Mechanic II at McLane performs preventative maintenance and repairs on trailer refrigeration systems, along with diesel engine diagnostics, wheel alignments, troubleshooting cooling systems, and a range of mechanical/electrical repairs. The role requires read/write proficiency for work instructions and safety protocols, the ability to use service bulletins and technical manuals, and certification/training within 30 days of hire. The position emphasizes teamwork, organization, problem-solving, and detailed work in a night-shift schedule (7:30 pm - 6:00 am, Thursday-Sunday) with a comprehensive benefits package beginning after the probation period, and 401(k) profit sharing after 90 days. The role may require on-call rotation and road calls using a company vehicle.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Trade school graduate in heavy duty diesel repairs and/or refrigeration
- Within 1 year from hire: ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck PMI (Test T8)
- Class A license preferred
- Certifications: International Maxx Force 13 Engines
- Certification in Transportation Refrigeration
- Brake Systems and components
- Tractor A/C Refrigeration and Freon Recovery (609 license required)
- Trailer Refrigeration 608 license (if working on trailer units)
- Heavy Duty electrical diagnostics and repairs
- ASE Certification in heavy duty mechanics and Cummins or Detroit certification
- Ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks
