Mechanic I - Steamfitter

Job Summary

Perform skilled steamfitter work on campus, including installation, inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of steam distribution systems. Conduct regular preventative maintenance on steam system devices, repair heating and ventilation systems, and install or replace piping. Read blueprints, make material takeoffs, and execute multi-trade projects while ensuring facility compliance with safety legislation and standards. Maintain a valid Ontario Class G driver's license and possess a current Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Steamfitter. This role supports the Plant Operations goal of providing a safe, accessible, and well-maintained campus environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Steamfitter (307A)
  • Five (5) years of experience within the Steamfitter trade, service and troubleshooting background
  • Work experience within a major institutional sector(s), such as education, medical/hospital or related construction industry
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the installation, alteration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of steam systems up to 210PSI
  • Demonstrated and in-depth understanding of all related tools and shop equipment
  • Ability to read and understand steam and mechanical system drawings
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario class "G" driver's license

Desired Qualifications

  • Additional related qualifications such as Plumber, Pipefitter, Millwright or Welder
  • Must be customer and team oriented
  • Able to work independently as well as in a group /team environment
