Job Summary
Maintain equipment in the RDC by diagnosing, planning, and executing repairs in specialty areas such as conveyors, rolling stock, or building systems. Perform complex equipment failures with minimal guidance while executing basic repairs outside your specialty, utilizing lock-out/tag-out procedures and appropriate PPE. Gather tools, order spare parts, and document equipment conditions, work performed, and parts used in the 7I system. Mentor Maintenance Utility associates, seek assistance from Mechanic II or Supervisors when needed, and bridge incomplete tasks between shifts. Attends scheduled training to increase skills in industrial electrical, HVAC, fire suppression, and material handling systems.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 Years of Experience in her/his specialty area
- Combination of experience and/or technical training in electrical/electronic theory ranging up to 600 volts systems (or willingness to obtain appropriate training within 1 year of employment)
- valid state driver's license
- If required by local regulations, certified to perform work at the Maintenance Mechanic level (such as electrical work in the state of Oregon)
- Must maintain appropriate certification as required by state and local regulations
- Must be able to safely and independently repair equipment in the RDC
- Must be able to integrate trade skills, classroom knowledge, and systems experience to recognize and diagnose equipment issues
- Must be able to prioritize and plan the work
- Must be able to obtain or order the appropriate spare parts
- Must be able to execute the repair
- Must be capable of mentoring a Maintenance Utility
- Must be able to seek assistance from a Maintenance Mechanic II or the Maintenance Supervisor, when needed
- Must be able to determine safety precautions and requirements for task
- Must be able to prepare worksite; perform lock-out/tag-out
- Must be able to use tools safely
- Must be able to check condition of tools prior to using
- Must be able to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Must be able to evaluate condition of equipment
- Must be able to determine spare parts needed and repair effort required
- Must be able to recognize potential for breakdown in near future and take pre-emptive action
- Must be able to plan work and execute task
- Must be able to mentor Maintenance Utility
- Must be able to use associates as assistant if appropriate
- Must be able to seek assistance from a more experienced mechanic if needed
- Must be able to leave worksite in good condition
- Must be able to turn in unused spare parts
- Must be able to document condition of equipment as found, work performed, spare parts used, and any other applicable information
- Must be able to enter data into 7I system (computerized maintenance management system)
- Must be able to close out work orders and Preventative Maintenance (PM) requests
- Must be able to inform next shift of remaining work
- Must be able to provide status of incomplete tasks bridging the two shifts
- Must demonstrate positive and effective communications with maintenance customers
- Must serve as an expert in two of the following specialty areas: conveyors, rolling stock, or building
- Must be able to diagnose, plan, and repair complex equipment failures with minimal guidance from Maintenance Mechanic II and Supervisors within specialty areas
- Must be able to diagnose, plan, and execute basic repairs outside of specialty areas
- Must attend and participate in training as scheduled
- Must continue to increase skill in his/her specialty area
- Must learn and develop a working knowledge of the repair methods for the other work areas
- Must have general knowledge and basic repair capability in the other two areas outside his/her specialty
Desired Qualifications
- Experience and/or certification with welding and fabrication
- Experience operating various maintenance and operations vehicles and equipment
- Experience reading blueprints, schematics, and other technical drawings
- Certification for electrical work and/or high voltage work
