Mechanic

Perform major and minor mechanical repairs with minimum supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Conduct inspections per DOT requirements, perform preventive maintenance, and complete repairs on district vehicles including engines, brakes, air conditioning systems, electrical components, and welding tasks. Maintain accurate maintenance records, assist lead mechanic with major repairs, drive district vehicles as needed, and ensure safe operation in compliance with district safety and policy guidelines. Requires knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine maintenance, ability to read safety and maintenance manuals, and the ability to pass DOT alcohol/drug tests and physicals. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a certificate from a technical school or college or equivalent experience, a Texas CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements, and licenses for vehicle inspection and HVAC/refrigerant recycling, plus completion of the Region 2 ESC School Bus Driver Safety Training within allotted timeframes. This role may involve occasional travel for on-site servicing and transportation duties.
