Job Summary
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on the district fleet (school buses, trucks, cars, tractors); diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic malfunctions; conduct vehicle bodywork and fabricate parts as directed; maintain detailed service logs, mileage data, and fuel usage; uphold DOT safety regulations and maintain a safe, organized shop; operate district vehicles and shop equipment; requires an Associate’s Degree in automotive/diesel tech or equivalent and a Vermont CDL (or ability to obtain one); 2–3 years of hands-on experience preferred.
Required Qualifications
- An Associate’s Degree in automotive/diesel technology or a comparable combination of education and hands-on commercial vehicle maintenance experience (2 to 3 years preferred)
- A valid Vermont Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record, or the ability to obtain one
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with standard shop tools and electronic testing equipment
- Ability to work cooperatively with the Transportation Director, staff, and external vendors, while maintaining a high level of independence and dependability
- Capacity to meet the physical demands of the role: constant standing, seeing, hearing, and manual dexterity; frequent bending, crouching, pushing/pulling, and lifting
- Comfort working in a standard maintenance environment with exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, odors, and machinery noise
