Job Summary
Mechanic B at Herc Rentals focuses on maintaining and servicing Herc-owned fleet to keep equipment on the rental ready line. Responsibilities include performing preventative maintenance, operating and testing equipment, diagnosing engines, electrical, hydraulic and fuel systems, conducting repairs with minimal supervision, servicing components (oil changes, lubrication, tires, hoses, batteries), managing parts/labor via work orders, training other mechanics, and ensuring safe, organized shop performance with detailed service reports and logs. Requires 2 years of heavy equipment repair experience, tools, ability to read schematics and manuals, proficiency with fleet-management systems, strong communication, and the ability to work with various equipment and drive/operate multiple vehicles. Location-based in Virginia (Roanoke or Patterson) with in-person work. Training of C-level mechanics and adherence to procedures/protocols are also stated.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in heavy equipment repair
- Ownership of sufficient selection of hand and air/electric tools
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to understand detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product warning labels
- Ability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, generators, hydraulics, pumps
- Computer skills to support entering information into systems
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to drive/operate multiple types of vehicles and equipment
- Ability to follow up with customers in a timely manner
- Attention to detail
- Must possess solid written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding the importance of time management
