Mechanic A

Mechanic A at Herc Rentals leads fleet maintenance operations to keep equipment on the rental ready line, serving as a mentor to B and C level mechanics. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule for all Herc-owned fleet at the branch; operating and testing equipment to ensure quality and efficiency; performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and trucks; diagnosing engines, DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems; performing major repairs with diagnostic tools and measuring instruments; conducting oil changes, lubrication, tire replacements, hose and battery replacements; assisting shop lead with customer damage estimates and repairs; entering and reviewing work orders and ordering parts via the fleet management system; reconditioning and replacing parts; taking service calls in the shop lead’s absence and dispatching Field Service Mechanics as needed; maintaining a clean work area; producing detailed service reports and repair logs; assisting in training B and C Mechanics; following all procedures and protocols; and performing additional duties as assigned. The role requires strong mechanical expertise, the ability to lead maintenance operations, a focus on safety and quality, and effective communication to coordinate maintenance activities and mentor junior technicians.
