Job Summary
Mechanic (2nd Shift) responsible for skilled repair and maintenance of gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment including heavy construction equipment, snow removal equipment, aircraft crash trucks, and fire and police vehicles with onboard computer systems. Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical defects; troubleshoots brake systems (including ABS); services hydraulic, electrical, and A/C systems; reads manuals/blueprints; overhauls and tests equipment; dismantles/reassembles heavy equipment; and performs routine maintenance. Requires operating on an airfield, with ability to respond to airport emergencies, and may involve forklift and other heavy equipment operation. Includes maintaining records of repairs, parts, and time worked, and working in varied weather conditions. Education minimum: HSD/GED; certifications/licensing include CDL Class A, SIDA, and valid driver’s license.
Required Qualifications
- Commercial Driver’s License – Class A (or ability to acquire within 6 months)
- Security Identification Display Area (SIDA)
- Valid Driver’s license
- 5+ years of direct experience repairing gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment
- Strong experience with large diesel vehicles/equipment
- Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Ability to read operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings
- Airfield driving requirement
