Job Summary
Maintain and repair company-owned light, medium, heavy vehicles, and trailers by diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and braking system failures. Perform removal, replacement, and assembly of components including axles, hubs, tires, and suspension systems while conducting preventive maintenance and DOT inspections. Complete all assigned shop orders, record time and parts usage, and provide necessary hand tools and diagnostic software access. Inform the lead technician upon completion of assignments and report unassigned repairs or environmental issues immediately. Work in compliance with all safety policies, emergency notification procedures, and environmental laws.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 1+ years of related experience and/or training in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment
- 4 years' direct experience as a diesel mechanic
- Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma or associate degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school
- Advanced knowledge of a vehicle's electrical system and the mechanisms of a diesel engine
- Ability of running diagnostic tests on vehicles
- Ability to test drive vehicles to gauge performance
- Ability to maintain detailed records of the vehicles they have serviced
- Proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostic software
- Ability to do hard physical labor
- Valid driver's license
- Acceptable driving record
- CDL-A
- Basic computer skills
- Must have appropriate inventory of hand tools
- Must be able to operate hoisting and jacking equipment
- Must be able to lift 100 pounds
- Must be able to frequently climb over, and under
- Must be able to walk and stand on concrete for 9 to 12 hours per day
- Must be able to walk an average of 2 – 4 miles per day
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a limited basis
- Must be able to occasionally work in situations two feet above the floor in a leaned-over or squatted position
- Able to work in conditions that include loud noise and fumes
- Able to work on and around heavy and moving machinery
- Able to use hand tools
- Able to work outdoors in extreme all-weather conditions
- Willing to work occasional weekends as needed
- Must be on call for emergency situations
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
